Okay, it’s not long ago that i have installed my Unreal Tournament 2004 on my linux. It works well, so i thought i could try something else:
My mind went to an oldschool game called Descent (I/II/III) and there was no doubt that a working linuxversion exists. Okay after i had discovered descent2.de, i tried d2x-xl. All worked fine, the compiling of the client, copying the files from a windows installation into the given directories, renaming them and some other tweaks.
BUT when i start the game, it shows the Descent2 intro, and then i get a blank screen and my machine is at 100% processor load. The only thing that does not freeze my machine after that is a “kill -9 d2x-xl”. So WHAT THE HECK is killing my Descent2 game at this point? – I get no errors, no information, nothing! Just 100% processor load!
Okay, that was a bit frustrating. Now i will try my luck with Neverwinter Nights. I knew this game long before, and i ever wanted to try it but I don’t know why I haven’t done it. Whatever, now i have ordered my copy of NWN to test it and play it if it works, bioware provides a linux-client so i think there will be no problems installing and playing the game! After i have gone through this game i will think about buying the sequel: Neverwinter Nights 2
In the end i hope i will have the motivation to play this game, because my game experience in UT2004 is fading away and I am playing only frequently. Well forget Descent, maybe it will run some day. But a game like NWN needs a lot of time…
I don’t know what it is, but my motivation, for completing my own todo-list and other things, which are useful for myself, is lower than it has ever been.
But why? Maybe just the lack of absolutely stress free time, the lack of good sunny weather, or what the heck…
Just keep your fingers crossed for me, that time will make it all better.
